Early Life and Education

While Ryan was born in Chicago, his family later moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois where he would grow up, educated at Glenbard South High School, and after matriculating, would go on to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During his time there, he was a member of the Illinois Fighting Illini football team as a walk-on tight end, playing with his older brother who was a linebacker.

He eventually graduated from the school with a degree in speech communication, subsequently travelling in Australia and New Zealand for around six months, before moving to Southern California in hopes of pursuing an acting career.

Acting Career

McPartlin began his career with Abercrombie & Fitch for which he was initially a model for several years. One of his first acting appearances was in the television series “The Nanny”, appearing in a “Titanic” spoof playing a Leonardo DiCaprio-type character alongside Fran Drescher. His popularity soon increased when he was cast in the soap opera entitled “Passions”, in 2001, which followed the lives and adventures of the residents of Harmony, and in which he stayed for three years, then making an appearance in the series “LA 7”.

He would work with Fran Drescher once more in the sitcom “Living with Fran”, playing the much younger live-in boyfriend; the show started in 2005 but only lasted for two seasons. McPartlin also auditioned twice for the role of Clark Kent/Superman in the film “Superman Returns” but would eventually lose the role to Brandon Routh. In 2008, he appeared in the show “Mad Men”, playing a character who had an affair with Betty Draper, played by January Jones.

Later Work

Ryan’s next notable role would come in the television series “Chuck”, cast in the role of Devon “Captain Awesome” Woodcomb; the series focuses on Chuck Bartowski played by Zachary Levi, an average computer whiz who receives an encoded email from an old friend which embeds a software program into Chuck’s brain containing the US’s greatest spy secrets. Due to this, both the NSA and the CIA assign him handlers to use him for various top secret missions. The show was initially in danger of cancellation after the second season, but fan support eventually helped it run for five seasons until 2011.

Ryan concurrently appeared in the music video “Stuck Like Glue” by Sugarland, in which he played a man being stalked. He also appeared in commercials for the perfume Boyfriend by Kate Walsh, then in 2012 began appearing in videos for the website LiveLifeLocal to help promote an active lifestyle. A few of his latest projects include recurring roles in “Mystery Girls”, and “Bad Judge” which he plays Billy the fireman.

Personal Life and Relationships

It is known that McPartlin married actress Danielle Kirin in 2002 and they have two children. He is a certified personal trainer and during his free time enjoys various sports, including snowboarding, diving and tennis. He is known to be very passionate about his acting career, and even spent a good deal of his time taking acting classes to improve his skills.

Is Ryan McPartlin on Social Media?

Similar to numerous actors, McPartlin is very active on social media particularly on websites such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. His Twitter account is mainly used to update fans about some of his daily endeavors, and pictures on Instagram see him travelling to various events with his family. He can also be seen in various videos and pictures with fellow actors, with whom he’s recently collaborated in acting projects. He also has a few workout videos which he posts on a semi regular basis. His Facebook page hasn’t been active since 2016, but it was previously used to promote content on his other social media pages.

Quotes

#Quote1I'm a huge fan of John Hughes and can say that 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' is easily a top 3 favorite. I'm also a huge fan of all the Second City talent, and I think my Dad and Bill Murray are long lost twins.2I've been so blessed and so lucky to be a part of great shows like 'Chuck' and projects 'Daybreak.'3I needed the 'Chuck' phase to appreciate the 'Captain Awesome' phase because otherwise I don't think I would have realized the flip side of that coin. I think I needed to see the world through Chuck's eyes before becoming Captain Awesome.4I'm a mean beanbag tosser.5Thankfully I'm a better actor than football player, or at least I hope so.6I grew up in Glen Ellyn, which is about 20 miles west of Chicago. I attended Glenbard South High School and University of Illinois. I didn't study acting until I moved to Los Angeles after college, but the fact that I was raised in the Chicago area set the stage for all of my comedic and acting sensibilities.
