Daniel Richard Moder was born on 31 January 1969, in Los Angeles, California USA, and is a cinematographer, best known for his work in films such as “Fireflies in the Garden”, “The Mexican”, and “Secret in Their Eyes”.

The Riches of Daniel Moder

How rich is Daniel Moder? As of mid-2018, sources estimate a net worth that is over $3 million, mostly earned through a successful career in the film industry, including receiving a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his work on the film “The Normal Heart”. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

Early Life and Education

Daniel grew up in a family with four siblings that was very familiar with the film industry, as his father worked as a producer. He was educated at Saint Monica High School, and after he matriculated in 1987, would attend the University of Colorado – Boulder, where he completed a degree in Psychology in 1992. After completing his studies, he pursued a career in film similar to that of his father.

Career Beginnings

In 1995, Moder began his work as a production assistant on “Crimson Tide”, a submarine film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Denzel Washington. The following year he started working in the Camera and Electrical Department on films, becoming a camera loader for “The Fan”, a thriller film starring Wesley Snipes and Robert De Niro. He mainly worked on camera or as an assistant camera for numerous films throughout the late 1990s, including on “The Big Tease”, and “Tuesdays with Morrie” which is an adaptation of the Mitch Albom book of the same name.

In 2000, he made his debut in cinematography in the short film “Kid Quick”. While he continued working as a camera crew for his next films, he soon got more cinematography work in films such as “Grand Champion”, the story of a young boy who wants to become Grand Champion. He also did the cinematography for the documentary “Border”, which is about the United States-Mexico border and the issues pertaining it, discussing illegal immigration, civil unrest, and drug trafficking, meantime still working as a part of the Camera department for numerous films.

Later Work

Some of the projects Daniel’s worked on as a camera operator throughout the 2000s include “Mona Lisa Smile”, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”, “The Forgotten”, and “Spider-Man 3”. Since 2007, he’s mostly taken work exclusively as a cinematographer, on projects including “Fireflies in the Garden”, a drama film starring Willem Dafoe and Ryan Reynolds. He also worked on 2011’s “Jesus Henry Christ”, which is a comedy film based on the student short film of the same name. He also did a few independent film projects during this period.

In 2013 he worked on “Plush”, which is an erotic thriller film, then returned as camera crew in “Point Break”, then as the cinematographer of “Secret in Their Eyes” which is a remake of the 2009 Argentine psychological thriller film of the same name. A few of his latest projects include “Heaven’s Floor” as a part of the photography team, and as the cinematographer for “Ibiza” which was released on Netflix, and stars Gillian Jacobs, Vanessa Bayer, and Phoebe Robinson.

Personal Life and Relationships

It is known that Moder married Vera Steimberg in 1997, but their marriage ended in their divorce in 2002. His second wife is actress Julia Roberts, who is widely known for her award-winning career which includes an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in “Erin Brokovich”. She’s been a part of numerous high profile films throughout her career, including “Ocean’s Twelve”, “Runaway Bride”, “Notting Hill”, “Wonder”, and “Eat Pray Love”. She was reputed to be the highest paid actress in the world throughout the 1990s.

According to reports, the couple met on the set of a film “The Mexican” in 2000, and the two married in 2002 after Moder and Steimberg’s divorce was finalized, in a ceremony at Roberts ranch located in Taos, New Mexico. The couple would go on to have three children together, two of whom are twins. Issues with their relationship began when Roberts started working on a film “Homecoming” and lobbied to have co-star Dermot Mulroney as her on-screen boyfriend. Her decision infuriated Moder, but it was only one of many issues the couple have had in the last few years. Reports from various sources say that the couple often quarrel, and they started to drift apart due to their careers, as well as Moder’s jealousy when it comes to other men.
