Maria worked as a waitress during her college years, but soon after she got her degree, she started on radio, as a news reporter for such stations as WABC, WBUR, WNBC Radio and WCBS, among others. She was slowly building knowledge and experience needed for a further career, and it was in 1997 that she made her first breakthrough when she was recruited by Fox25 News Television to work as a general assignment reporter. Gradually her career was improving, and she joined Boston’s WFXT-TV where she was to be a news anchor and reporter for nearly eighteen years.

As a general assignment reporter, Maria covered a number of major events across the US, including John F. Kennedy Jr., the Presidential recount vote live from Florida, the Worcester Cold Storage fire, and the 9/11 attacks, among many others. She was also given freedom to report on major sports events such as the Red Sox World series win and Patriots’ Super Bowl wins.
